This free Book of Daniel quiz covers the full sweep of Daniel's extraordinary story โ from his arrival as a captive in Babylon to his final visions of future kingdoms. With 30 questions spanning the diet test, the fiery furnace, Nebuchadnezzar's dreams, the writing on the wall, and the lion's den, this quiz tests both narrative knowledge and prophetic understanding.
All questions are based on the King James Version (KJV). The quiz is suitable for ages 10 and up and works equally well for Sunday School, youth groups, homeschool Bible classes, and personal study.
The Book of Daniel divides neatly into two halves. Chapters 1-6 tell the story of Daniel and his three friends โ Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) โ maintaining their faith and identity in a pagan empire. Chapters 7-12 record Daniel's prophetic visions of future world kingdoms and the ultimate triumph of God's kingdom.
The historical narratives are among the most dramatic in Scripture. In Chapter 3, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse to bow to Nebuchadnezzar's golden statue and are thrown into a furnace so hot it kills the soldiers who throw them in โ yet a fourth figure, 'like the Son of God,' walks with them in the fire. In Chapter 6, Daniel prays faithfully despite a decree forbidding it and is thrown into a lion's den โ only to emerge unharmed the next morning.
The prophetic chapters have fascinated Bible students for centuries. Daniel's vision of the four kingdoms (Chapter 2, 7), the 70 weeks prophecy (Chapter 9), and the visions of Chapters 10-12 all point to the sovereignty of God over human history and the certainty of His ultimate victory.
Know the Babylonian names of Daniel's three friends. Their Hebrew names were Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. The Babylonians renamed them Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Quiz questions test BOTH sets of names.
Learn the sequence of major events by chapter. Chapter 1: diet test. Chapter 2: Nebuchadnezzar's dream. Chapter 3: fiery furnace. Chapter 4: Nebuchadnezzar's madness. Chapter 5: writing on the wall. Chapter 6: lion's den. Know which events happen in which chapter.
Memorize key verses. Daniel 6:10 (Daniel praying three times daily), Daniel 3:17-18 (Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego's declaration), and Daniel 2:44 (the kingdom that will never be destroyed) are frequently tested.
Understand Nebuchadnezzar's two dreams. The great image of metals (Chapter 2) and the tree dream (Chapter 4) are both interpreted by Daniel. Know what each metal and symbol represents.
