What Does the Bible Say About God's Presence?

'Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.'

Jesus' final words before ascending — His last promise was presence.

Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, 'I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.'

Contentment flows from the security of knowing God never leaves.

You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forever more.

The deepest joy is found only in His presence — not in circumstances.

Yahweh, your God, is among you, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will calm you in his love. He will rejoice over you with singing.

God does not merely tolerate us — He sings over us with delight.

The shepherd's presence transforms every landscape — even the darkest valley.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.

God does not promise dry paths — He promises wet paths with His presence.

No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not fail you nor forsake you.

God's presence is the same for every generation — what He was to Moses, He is to you.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Very present — not distant, not delayed. God is here, right now.

He said, 'My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.'

Moses refused to move without God's presence — and God promised it.

I heard a loud voice out of heaven saying, 'Behold, God's dwelling is with people, and he will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.'

The ultimate fulfillment — God with His people, face to face, forever.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the middle of them.

Even the smallest gathering carries the promise of Christ's presence.

But it is good for me to come close to God. I have made the Lord Yahweh my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.

Nearness to God is the greatest good — the psalmist has discovered this.

Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you.

God's presence comes with gifts — strength, help, and upholding.

'I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever— the Spirit of truth... he lives with you, and will be in you.'

The Holy Spirit is the permanent presence of God — in us, not just with us.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.'

Dwelling with God — not visiting, but living — is the source of all protection.

'Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I can't see him?' says Yahweh. 'Don't I fill heaven and earth?' says Yahweh.

God's presence fills all space — there is no place without Him.

Yahweh's eyes are everywhere, keeping watch on the evil and the good.

God's presence is watchful — He sees and knows all that happens.

Yahweh, you have searched me, and you know me. You know my sitting down and my rising up. You perceive my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.

God knows us completely — total presence and total knowledge.
